c.1907

Aventurine quartz, cabochon sapphires

PROVENANCE: Commissioned by Edward VII, 1907; given to Queen Alexandra for her birthday, 1 December 1908

One of at least three shire horses modelled as part of the Sandringham commission. Thought to be a portrait model of the champion Field Marshal, but it could represent another shire stallion Hoe Forest King, a model of which was purchased from Fabergé's Lonadon branch in 1909.
