1854

Captain Edward Inglefield was a talented photographer and in 1854, produced a startling composition of arctic rocks made abstract by filling the frame of the camera almost entirely with the rock and ice that he would have encountered around the bay. It is the most photographic of his compositions, as he moves away from the existing aesthetics of the time into a vision of the landscape that emerged entirely from the camera.
